Canvas Prints

What Resolutions Do You Need for Canvas Prints?

Figuring out what resolution you need to print your photo on a canvas print can be a tricky endeavor, even for pros like us. Many people don’t know much about photo resolutions and the sizes needed for successful printing. Those who don’t care about it altogether often go ahead and print their photos using the wrong resolution, only to get a blur of a disappointment when the job is done.

To help you better understand the best canvas print resolutions to use when you want to shoot and print a photo on quality canvas, we’ve put together a brief miniguide to the resolutions needed to properly print your photos on canvas.

Use the smallest size format for photos with low resolution

Some of the best and personal photos we take are on devices that aren’t designed to handle high-resolution photography. These photos are usually around 200 x 200 pixels or lower in resolution and may not print correctly on large canvases.

Luckily for you though, most mobile devices and smartphones are manufactured with resolution in mind and feature settings that are on par with digital cameras. But what if your photo was taken with a device that doesn’t feature the right resolution settings that allow for seamless printing onto any size of canvas material?

In this case, as a general rule of thumb, you should always opt for the smallest sized canvas to avoid any blur or disorientation in the final product. Getting a stunning canvas print using a low-resolution photo is as simple as using an 8” x 8” or 8” by 12” canvas format size.

What to do when you want to go with a big canvas

If you want to go big rather than going home, you’ll have to use high resolution settings when taking your photos – there’s just no way around it. Large canvas prints can add a whole lot of flavor to your home or establishment, ensuring that they print correctly is well-worth the effort. Here are some conventional seizes for medium to large canvases:

ü  760 x 610 px resolution for 16”x20” canvas size;

ü  1200 x 760 px resolution for 20”x30” canvas size;

ü  1400 x 920 px resolution for 24”X36” canvas size;

ü  1900 x 1400 px resolution for 36”x48” canvas size.

If you don’t think the photo you’ve taken matches the canvas size you have in mind, don’t worry about it, we’ve got your back! Simply get in touch with us, tell us about your desired canvas size and photo’s resolution, and we’ll be happy to help!
